The Climes They Are a-Changin' For You
I balance the poles on thumb and forefinger
Twirling, gyrating, they twist
away from me and
each other
Almost as if they do not know
or acknowledge me
So I force them together,
twin magnets that attract me but repel
the other
N.
Avert.
Turn the cheek. There.
Now we are back
to back
and the ice that made us breaks
us into one piece
Again we are shattered together
S.
Can you feel the mercury rising?
Red is for the temper that
'tempers' us
As if melting poles that stand a world
apart would make us
stronger
And we would turn
our faces
Our eyes
meeting somewhere in the middle
Our charges would dissipate
We might melt
into the (ant)Arctic
and meet in the water
Drowning everything between our cardinal points
And when we are done
When it is over
We will rise and ask if you are happy

Grind
Crunch. Leaves crackle underfoot as I tramp them into the concrete. Step by step, the clattering of my footsteps grows as the leaves die down. I duck my head by a fraction as I descend into the Underground. Remarkable how clean it is here. None of those rotting organics. Still, I wish they'd brighten things up a bit. Splash some paint around. Swap out those flickering fluorescents for neon and colour. Anything but this interminable…greyness.
I stop by a ticket machine, ignoring the ticket-seller with grubby hands. I feed it coins scrounged from one of many jacket pockets. Most of them were empty, which was surprising. Usually I keep all sorts of useless crap on me. The weight is comforting. This lightness is… disconcerting now that I consider it. So I stop and take what the machine spits back out.
I trudge my way to the platform, waiting. I glance at the yellow line just inches from my feet.

Fish and Mops
The litter-strewn cafeteria was much like a derelict house, save that the accumulation of refuse had spanned hours instead of years. Not so derelict, as it turns out. Its insides glare neon and garish with the misleading lights of just-closed food stalls. A sandwich place stays open. The undimmed lights are perhaps a tad negligent for an educational institution priding itself on environmental consciousness and conservatorship. But a later inspection in the dead of night might meet with zero-carbon darkness and hasty rebukes that prove misplaced.
Muted conversation weaves its way around the room, its intersections and collisions grinding meaning to the dust of indecipherable chatter. Students formally taught the art of finding and making meaning generate it now without a second’s struggle for thought, ease coming from mastery masked in informality. So well hidden that searching for it in tomorrow’s class would be fruitless

Uncertain Tides
It is that time when the sun begins to set and washes a savannah in the reds of glowing embers. Emergent rulers of a green kingdom cast their shadows, quenching the twinkling gaps in the rainforest canopy as the chattering of its nocturnal denizens builds to a roar. All around is noise indecipherable, the ambient cacophony a comfort in a world lost to sight. Birds trill, insects chirp, and primates call to their mates in reassurance. Incessant streams of conversation flow every which way, yet somehow arrive at the intended recipient in that din. Lumbering herds of elephants arrive with spinning dust-clouds as attendants until patches of springy soil softened with moisture force the regal giants to drink without their retinue. Muscular trunks dip gingerly into the muddy pool, then whip out and trumpet satisfaction before plunging back in with gusto. When they have drunk their fill, they trod off and leave the watering hole to other animals gathered there. S

Bones
The house is loosely anchored by foundations that sink into sandy grit. Everything it sits on is boxed in by a picket fence. I was puzzled for the longest time as to why those two were so desperate to erect this construction. Maybe they imagined that drawing a line in the sand would ward off imagined specters of ill-omen. Their flights of fancy were quite fantastical in that way. The fences all gleamed white, for another thing. Whoever heard of a less durable choice of pigment?
Years of exposure to inclement elements have worn it down to nothing, with the cumulative corrosion of raindrops stealing gloss from wood, and each stiff breeze whistling contentedly while cradling a few newly orphaned ivory flakes. Dull and grey-faced, the dried paint must be relieved for a new home. My cheeks puff as I try to lend vigour to the flagging winds, but the efforts are immaterial. A scrap of paint winds its way down a stairwell of spirallin

Pens in Motion

All around me are pens in motion. Solid and narrow, the reservoirs of black and blue discharge their liquid contents onto a gleaming white surface marred by crisp lines. The blue lines are faint but firm in their direction of verbal traffic. Between them, pens dip and glide gracefully over paper, imprinting their inky thoughts for swift absorption. Words so formless and malleable in the vacuum of minds dry and congeal with astonishing rapidity, indelibly affixed. All that can be done is to strike them through with a dismissive stroke, but the words remain nonetheless. When observing the business of pen strokes, it is all too easy to mistakenly imbue them with living agency. A romanticism most indulged in by writers, it is a fanciful distraction. Pens do not write. Those who hold them in their grasp do.

Sacrifice
For fifteen dollars
you can buy a book
with a gloss cover
from Barnes & Noble
on conjuring demons.
There's all this
preparation.
Drawing a circle
with silver and salt,
a bit of blood
a sprig of rosemary,
maybe some magic words
and, like all things,
if you do not tremble
then you do not believe.
Then comes the
need for
an impossible sacrifice.
A human
built for humanity.
To be honest,
I've found it's easier
to summon the devil
by yelling out my window
at one in the morning.

In the forests of my home
where the evergreens
grab at the stars,
I lay naked on my side.
Pretending to be
sleeping.
There is a white bear
lumbering on my porch.
He slams his weight
against my door;
eyes glazed over like a shark-
and he is hungry,
he whispers to me:
I have seen the sunset through the trees
and that is not enough.

but it looks to me
like a trail of raindrops
quivering across
a pane of glass

draped in telephone wires,

The earth

both soaked to the bone.

Hiya! Wooow you've graduated high school! Congrats :D
I'm technically on summer break but am taking courses. 2 of them are online so I have loads of free time. Lots of things have happened over the past year. I've done some writing, got introduced to DnD, found myself a boyfriend, and have been exploring Toronto! Life is just great right now.

This must be an exciting time for you, applying to universities and all! Though I remembered being really bored with nothing to do all summer. Hopefully you'll find something to keep yourself busy. How are things on your end?

Thanks, I need to catch up with writing. I have everything in my head for Tamesis Saunterer except I can't seem to find yet how I want the 2nd chapter to be like. I know it's somewhere hiding in my mind so, I shall go find it XD! I might have another new story after I had this creepy dream I had last night and I wrote it in my journal entry [link] on DA about it just to get the weight off my mind. Awe, that's sweet you have a boyfriend! I have a boyfriend, too! He lives in Atlanta and we Skype each other almost everyday. Our longest time on Skype was 5 hours :la:! I made him this box at school I mailed to him [link] . I have been at home a lot but, I am looking to find work; I am interested in applying for Whole Foods, any small business organic markets and/or Farmer's markets.

Yeah, I am excited to go to College. I just hope I can survive math when I get there because that's the only subject throws me off. Also, I am trying some new art like using oil pastels, doing a cosplay of Kaneda from Akira, take pictures of the places I go and cook and bake different foods and take pictures of them.

I just read your journal entry and I'd agree that it's probably the paranormal stuff you've been watching seeping into your subconscious. Doubt it's the food. I love writing stories based off of dreams and my personal experiences.

That's a really well-made box! You have a knack for pottery/crafts. My boyfriend and I don't usually Skype each other, since we're in the same city (he lives all the way at the opposite end of the city though. The commute's around 1 and 1/2 hours D:)

Good luck with your job applications! I just got back from volunteering for this Walk for Arthritis charity event this morning, so I can have something to put on my resume. I'm afraid I don't have any real work experience, so I'm starting with volunteer work first.

Depending on what major/program/courses you're taking, you might be able to avoid math as much as possible. It's what I'm doing, though I still have to take a math course next semester.
